What are dental implants ?

A dental implant  is a replacement tooth “root” made out of titanium. It is shaped like a screw and is inserted into the jaw bone to support a dental prosthesis, such as a crown, bridge or denture. This titanium screw is able to fuse with the jaw, providing a secure, long-term solution to restore your tooth and improve your chewing ability and smile aesthetics, and prevent bone loss.

What Are the Steps involved in a Dental Implants Treatment?

Free initial consultation
During the initial consultation at our clinic, patients are assessed for their suitability for dental implants. This is your chance to ask questions and raise any concerns you may have. Our Brisbane dentist will carry out a thorough oral examination and CBCT scan to check the health and density of your jawbone and will also discuss your medical condition. Patients need to have a healthy mouth, good oral hygiene, an abundance of healthy bone in the jaw and be in sufficiently good health to undergo surgery. Having been declared suitable, our dental team will plan your implant journey virtually and will schedule a day for surgery.

Day of Surgery
The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic, and minor surgery is performed to gradually drill away bone until a sufficient-sized gap is created. The implant is then placed into the bone with minimal force. Once the surgery is over, patients need to wait for the dental implants to fuse with the surrounding bone tissue in a process known as osseointegration.

Placing the abutment and crown
After 3-4 months of healing (sometimes more, pending a decision made by the surgeon), the implant is ready to be restored.

The gums are opened, an impression coping is inserted, and a specific record of the mouth is taken, which includes information on the depth of the implant and its angulation.

Using this information, the correct abutment and the prosthesis, in this case, a crown, are then fabricated custom to the mouth.

The crown and abutment are then placed, and the new tooth is ready for action!

These item codes are claimed through your health fund, and although the actual costs can vary from health fund to health fund, keep in mind that the total cost of treatment ($3995) will not change.

Visit 1 – Consultation

*We charge a 200 dollar fee if you wish to take these records with you – this is to prevent us being exploited as a free Cone Beam facility. Most Radiology clinics charge $150 for a cone-beam AFTER medicare

Visit 2 – Implant Placement

Keep in mind that the mouth needs to be free from dental decay, gum disease and other issues before we proceed with the actual placement of a dental implant.

Visit 3 – Suture removal

This is normally happens 5 – 10 days after your surgery

Visit 4 – 1-Month Review

We check on your implants while they  heal with an x-ray to ensure that everything is going smoothly.

Visit 5 – 2-Month Review

If everything is going smoothly at the 2-Month mark this will be the last review, if we have concerns we may see you again in one month time.

Visit 6 – 2nd Stage Surgery

This usually occurs after three months of healing; however, in some cases, the healing period may be as long as six months. this will be discussed at the consultation and also can change during the course of the treatment depending on your healing and recovery.

Visit 7 – 9 – Impressions, secondary impressions, shade matching and finally crown insert

These appointments span 2-4 weeks, and can vary greatly pending on personal needs

*Price written here are for a standard full-contour zirconia crown, extra options available for highly aesthetic crowns at an extra cost.

Total price of an implant bundle at our clinic, including the consultation, implant surgery and crown is $3995, and the costs are due over a period of 4 months at each appointment.
